Introducing SHIELDSEAM™ for recyclable fibre-based flexible packaging

Jujo Thermal is expanding its portfolio of sustainable packaging materials with the launch of a heat-sealable fibre-based material designed for flexible packaging applications. Developed to replace conventional multilayer laminates, SHIELDSEAM™ helps converters and brand owners transition towards recyclable paper-based packaging.

Mono-material for easy recyclability

As sustainability requirements and packaging regulations continue to evolve, the industry is increasingly seeking simpler packaging structures with improved recyclability. SHIELDSEAM™ integrates heat-sealing functionality directly into the paper structure, eliminating the need for additional lamination and enabling recyclability in standard paper waste streams.

The mono-material structure* supports circular packaging design and helps companies prepare for evolving regulatory requirements, including the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR).

Optimised for converting performance

SHIELDSEAM™ is designed to run efficiently on existing converting lines and performs reliably in both VFFS and HFFS packaging processes. The grade is suitable for a wide range of packaging formats, including flow wraps, pouches and bags.

Typical end-use applications include non-food packaging such as industrial parts and toys, as well as secondary and selected primary food packaging where barrier requirements are low or not required. SHIELDSEAM™ is suitable for food contact applications and complies with relevant BfR and FDA requirements.

The material delivers reliable heat-sealing performance, supports high-speed converting and enables high-quality flexographic printing with a consistent visual appearance.

Versatile and customisable

The SHIELDSEAM™ portfolio includes grades with and without water vapour barrier properties, allowing packaging performance to be tailored to specific application requirements. Basis weight, coating and base paper can also be customised to meet individual customer needs.

All SHIELDSEAM™ grades are FSC® Mix Credit and 100% PEFC certified, supporting responsible sourcing throughout the value chain.

With SHIELDSEAM™, Jujo Thermal offers converters and brand owners a fibre-based alternative that combines heat-sealability, converting efficiency and recyclability in a single packaging structure.
