Key areas of our sustainability work

Safe Working Environment

Ensuring occupational health and safety is a fundamental principle of our operations. We continuously develop working conditions and practices to provide our employees and subcontractors with a healthy and safe working environment. Our goal is to build a proactive and consistent safety culture, which we promote through active employee engagement and open communication. We conduct regular safety risk assessments and audit our operations to ensure the continuous development of our safety culture. We have been awarded the ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System certification

Responsible Product Innovations

In product development, we combine sustainability, quality, and customer focus. We aim to create sustainable solutions that support our customers’ climate and circular economy targets while strengthening responsibility throughout the entire value chain. We focus on material efficiency and the use of renewable raw materials. We are continuously developing products with a reduced environmental impact. Examples of such innovations include SHIELDPLUS®, a recyclable fibre-based flexible packaging material, non-topcoated Linerless thermal papers, and phenol-free thermal papers.

Energy Usage

Responsible energy use is a key element of our climate work. Our goal is to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and decrease energy consumption relative to the amount of paper produced. We participate in the national Energy Efficiency Agreement and are committed to continuous improvement under the Energy-Intensive Industries Action Plan. Since 2024, all the electricity we use has been sourced from low-emission sources. In terms of thermal energy, we also work closely with our energy supplier to promote low-emission solutions. We are committed to reducing the climate impact of our energy consumption over the long term, in close collaboration with our partners.

Product Safety

We ensure that our products are suitable for and safe in their intended end-use applications. The safety of food contact materials is managed according to the principles of the ISO 22000 standard. Our products are manufactured and sold in compliance with REACH regulations, and we actively monitor developments in EU chemicals legislation and the implementation of regulatory updates. All our products comply with the heavy metal concentration limits set out in Annex II of Directive 94/62/EC. Bisphenol A is not used in our thermal paper grades, and a significant share of our thermal paper grades are free from phenol-based developers.

Water Use and Protection of Water Bodies

We employ efficient water treatment methods to minimize water consumption and wastewater generation in our production. Our goal is to achieve high standards of water protection and to maintain the ecological balance of surrounding water bodies.

Waste Management Solutions Promoting Circular Economy

Our goal is to reduce waste generation and to utilize production side streams as efficiently as possible. We continuously develop strategies and operating models that support recycling and the reuse of materials. By-products and waste fractions are primarily directed for reuse as raw materials or utilized for energy production. All waste is managed and disposed of responsibly under applicable regulations.

Safeguarding Biodiversity

We are committed to preserving and protecting biodiversity. We collaborate with local authorities and communities to promote the conservation of natural diversity. All wood-based raw materials we use are either certified or meet the requirements for controlled sources by international forest certification systems such as FSC® and PEFC™. These certifications ensure that the forest-based raw materials are sourced responsibly and from sustainably managed forests. We have been awarded the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System certification.

Part of the Local Community

Jujo Thermal’s mill is located on the banks of the Eurajoki River, in the historic Kauttua ironworks area, where papermaking traditions span over a century. We are one of the most significant employers in the region, and we are committed to helping ensure that the area remains a vibrant and pleasant place to live for future generations. We support local children and young people through partnerships with schools and sports clubs, and by offering summer job opportunities. We also participate in the local JOKI program, which aims to protect and improve the water quality of the Eurajoki watershed. The program covers the catchment area below Lake Pyhäjärvi in Säkylä, including the streams and lakes flowing into the Eurajoki River
