Collaboration of Jujo Thermal and Totani demonstrates the performance of heat sealable and recyclable barrier paper SHIELDPLUS® Graphic HS
We are excited to announce the results of our latest technical cooperation project with machine manufacturer Totani. The heat sealable and recyclable SHIELDPLUS® Graphic HS barrier paper was tested on Totani's packaging lines, demonstrating its exceptional performance in printing and converting processes.
In the packaging industry, there is an urgent need to reduce packaging waste and enhance recyclability. The adoption of new raw materials and manufacturing technologies that support circular design and carbon neutrality is becoming increasingly crucial. The European Green Deal, initiated by the EU, places regulatory pressure on all industries to swiftly implement transitions toward more sustainable operations.
Jujo Thermal contributes the circular design and recyclability within the food industry by providing sustainable solutions without compromising the performance in converting processes. Collaborations, like the one with Totani, creates new expertise which Jujo Thermal can pass on further to its customers in value chain.
Through the collaboration, we have produced paper pouch samples using the SHIELDPLUS® Graphic HS barrier paper—a heat sealable, recyclable, and printable high-barrier paper designed for sustainable flexible food packaging. These samples were printed on an HP Indigo 25K Digital Press. The SHIELDPLUS® Graphic HS is compatible with flexographic, rotogravure, and digital printing methods.
Thanks to its integrated heat-sealant layer, the SHIELDPLUS® Graphic HS provides a comprehensive solution for the flexible packaging industry, streamlining the converting process. It offers superior oxygen and water vapor barrier properties, providing a viable alternative to traditional flexible food packaging, which currently relies mainly on plastic or aluminum barrier films. It is designed for the flexible packaging of various food items such as tea, coffee, seeds, flakes, flour, grains, rice, baked goods, salty snacks, and ready meals.
We are confident that this joint project and its results will inspire stakeholders, such as brand owners and converters in the flexible packaging value chain, to rethink their strategies and take the necessary steps to replace plastics with sustainable fiber-based options.
The mock-up samples from our joint project will be showcased at Fachpack from September 24-26, 2024, at our stand 3A-317.
